Anything you might like to be known as John. Either your special weekend name or your everyday name will be fine.

It's possibly helpful to include forum name as well, if that's different from ones everyday name, though mine are the same anyway.

Re: Final Solihull Fling - 10th May 2014 - TV Junk Swap
I will be thus labelled!
Will also have TWO tv's with me today!! One I will be collecting on my way over! It is quite special, well, to me anyway. I won't spoil the surprise by identifying it now! Neither have been powered up for more than at least 30 years so it will be interesting to discover if they can be persuaded to reward us with a picture! See you about 10-10.30am.

A good do and nice to meet many old pals from here.
Seeing so many hybrid Pyes brought back memories (nightmares?). Of course, a big thankyou for Mike's hospitality and his extraordinary bacon sarnie making; grilled to perfection!

Awesome, Awesome, AWESOME!!!! Thank you so much Mike, Last year I was still new and a little shy as I didn't know anyone but everything seemed to remember me and it made me feel right at home. Thank you so much for your very generous hospitality and the endless butties, drinks etc.....

Thanks Mike for a lovely fun day with plenty of coffee and snacks. Really enjoyed meeting fellow ex engineers and playing with the old sets. Managed to get rid of some junk and collect some! Look forward to meeting you all again soon. Kindest regards, David

Re: Final Solihull Fling - 10th May 2014 - TV Junk Swap
Thank you to everyone who attended for making the day so amazingly enjoyable. And especially to John for paying for the food on Saturday evening - that was exceptionally kind of you old mate. I had an absolutely brilliant day fiddling with old TVs and nattering with all my old pals - and the Sunday spent wandering around the NVCF at Warwick made for a perfect weekend.
Thanks again everyone, and sorry we didn't do very well in the Eurovision Paul, but I hope your event went well anyway. Kind regards. From Mike.

Re: Final Solihull Fling - 10th May 2014 - TV Junk Swap
I had a fantastic weekend too,
It was great to be among like minded people and to have so much "hands on with the sets" Thanks for putting me up for the night too Mike. Thankyou to John (HCS) for Saturday evening too, you are a true gent sir! NVCF was good although I kept thinking that there wasn't so much good stuff there as normal, perhaps I'm getting used to what to expect as I've been going for a number of years now. I still came away with two Telequipment servicescope minors, a loveley looking Philips dual standard set from around 1965 I would think and also collected my rewound LOPT for my TV22 from Mike Barker, looks superb! Cheers

Re: Final Solihull Fling - 10th May 2014 - TV Junk Swap
What a brilliant day in all respects! A bunch of great blokes get to hang out and talk TV etc, or as tazzman1966 puts it, nerding All with outstanding hospitality! On this occasion it was even better for me as I took my first 2 TV's along for testing and evaluation, a Pye VT5 and KB VC52.
They couldn't be in better hands, the knowledge and experience possessed by these guys is incredible, it leaves me speechless! I picked up the VT4 that morning and it is a really exceptional example, I feel very lucky to have found it. Having not seen power for at least 40-50 years we weren't expecting much but it powered up and an image of sorts was displayed, although very messed up. The main thing is that the tube seems really good. So a good going over and recap should see it back upto speed! The KB fired right up and worked after a bit of knob twiddling! That hasn't been used for 35-40 years! Amazing! A couple of fragile looking dropper connections were attended to by HSB and all was good, thanks mate! Very special thanks to Mikey for hosting us and John for his incredible and greatly appreciated generosity. Thanks to all, it's a privilege to know you.

Re: Final Solihull Fling - 10th May 2014 - TV Junk Swap
TV HEAVEN
The Pye,Hmv,Gec,Kb,Bush,Decca Etc keep coming in. The grey-scale and convergence always spot on. The tea / coffee always hot. The bacon sandwiches keep on coming. The room is filled with like minded people with a suggestion of what the fault is. The soldering iron is hot with 60/40. This can only be Mikeys fling. Thanks for a great day. Keith P. S. l will look for the EKCO and BUSH manuals and get back to you. |
