Re: Damaged motor control board in Panasonic SG2080L-repairable?
Won't the motor have been damaged as well?

possibly but I would think the circuit will have taken the impact.

Thanks for the tip about the other board on offer, Gary. I'll look into it, but Peter is right, the motor has been damaged as well!

Re: Why buy records if you don't have a player?
Gary, I haven't been able to find either of those items, which are presumably on eBay. So as not to contravene forum rules, can you PM me the details, please?

Re: Why buy records if you don't have a player?
Further to my post above, I've now found both items mentioned by Gary, and, although I haven't yet spoken to the turntable's owner, it's unlikely that he will want to pay maybe £50 or so to have that one repaired when, as has been noted, decent quality belt-drive Tts turn up for a few pounds these days. In addition because the complete set of parts in on a U.S. site, the transformer included will most likely be for 117VAC 60Hz.

Hello Matey yes I take your point about being USA versions the mains frequency does not affect the DC motor or circuit.
I would still have gone halves with him on the purchase of either Gary |

Re: Damaged motor control board in Panasonic SG2080L-repairable?
Gary, having spoken today to the owner he would be interested if the contrpl board, etc., was still available, but it doesn't seem to be listed anymore. I've tried 'Panasonic SG2080L Spares, Panasonic SL-20 Spares, and variations of these, but have drawn a blank. Do you know if either item mentioned is still available?

Re: Damaged motor control board in Panasonic SG2080L-repairable?
If the board is no longer available, why not consider building a controller?
A simple PWM controller is trivial; a little more work involved of there's some sort of tacho feedback. |

Re: Damaged motor control board in Panasonic SG2080L-repairable?
Since my last post, I have found both the auctions to which Gary refers by googling 'Panasonic SL-20' spares. Both are still available, so I need to double check that the Motor is included, then contact the owner.

Re: Damaged motor control board in Panasonic SG2080L-repairable?
I have since found several examples of the 12v DC motor available, some with the speed control board, and some without, but all are fairly expensive, between £25 and £38 in round figures. All are from the USA, which doesn't help, since nearly half of the above prices is the postage cost. I don't have the original motor in front of me, but I'm wondering what the difference is between, e.g., a Matsushita MMX-3H2RPA and a MMX-5F2RUA, as both are designed to drive a metal Turntable about 11" in diameter, the speed change being electronic. I have a few NOS Cassette player motors, including some 12vDC ones, and at least one dual speed one, but I doubt that any of these would be suitable for this turntable.

Re: Damaged motor control board in Panasonic SG2080L-repairable?
The motor is a basic 3 pole DC motor, with a winding on the end that feeds back into the servo control.
These motors were used by some manufacturers in their cassette decks, Tandberg and Aiwa come to mind. Sony did the same thing with their cassette decks and a turntable at the time, these require two different DC power supplies and would be fiddly to install Gary |

Not sure if you have seen, there is a complete turntable cheaper on UK eBay.

Re: Damaged motor control board in Panasonic SG2080L-repairable?
Incidentally the motor in the SG2080L record deck is a MHX-5P2RWA. Would either of those I mentioned in post#31 be a suitable replacement? I know that one of those is a 4-terminal type, which has an internal electronic governer, and could be used without the speed control board, but am not sure about the other. (I'm keeping all options open regarding this job!)

I don't recall seeing a cassette type that will work in a TT. The TT ones usually have a longer shaft and I think they run faster.
