Default Swindon Motorola "Tube" building.

As an example of how short-lived manufacturing facilities can be [and following on from my photos of the old Plessey Cheney Manor site] here's another local example.

In the last couple of years of the last millennium, Motorola had built a rather innovative building on the outskirts of Swindon, to house their GSM phone-component manufacturing plant.

It attained fame for appearing in a James Bond movie.

However, Motorola lost market-share rapidly, and GSM technology became obsolete as soon as 3G/4G smartphones appeared on the scene.

The GSM stuff stopped being produced there in 2006; the whole Motorola building was sold off in 2009, had its iconic 'tube' pruned, and is now a distribution-centre.
