Default Valve RF device FOC.

This must have come to me decades ago in a job lot and I have no idea what its intended purpose is. It is built into a twin mains back-box and has 2 rather nice B9A valve-holders. One has a skirt which I suppose marks it out as the "RF" one.

There is a Belling-Lee (TV) aerial socket on the side and power comes in via a (now cut-off) 3 core cable. I don't see any other input so probably not a pantry transmitter. There is an ex-Air Ministry transformer marked 10M(?)/162 - maybe someone with the relevant documentation can identify what surplus equipment this came from.

There is an inductor with lots of turns on suggesting Long Wave frequencies but the only variable C is a beehive trimmer. Maybe it's an RF source with the transformer used as a modulation transformer. The pot seems to be an output level control.

It's free-of-charge (inc postage) for anyone wanting a play, for parts or just "curious", as they say...

I've no use for this, but the guessing is a bit of fun in itself! An external BFO with oscillator and rectifier for use with a domestic "all-wave" type set, maybe involving a pulled EF80 or ECC-something? Maybe an IF alignment source with modulation oscillator, and fed by an external PSU?

Nice easy allocation choice this time! Mick, it's yours.
Please PM me your postal address and I'll get it to the PO some time this week.
Meanwhile, I'm going to post a query about the mystery A.M. transformer in the Military section.
