Default HMV 2401 or 2402

Hello, I have recently inherited an HMV Stereomaster which was in perfect working order. However, during transportation (our car) the turntable speed setting no longer works. Whereas it used to click neatly from 16,45,33 to 98 now the lever just slides along and the turntable plays too fast for a 33 record.
Can anyone give any advice on repairing this please?
Thank you.

If you examine the mechanism you may find something as just unclipped and requires refitting. On the other hand there could be more problematic damage.

You need to inspect the mechanism and determine just what's occurred, posting some photos of the deck with the platter removed may allow a forum member to identify the problem if it’s not obvious to you.

Hopefully a straightforward fix for you.

The BSR Autochanger will be a BSR C129 or later. The Stickies above give a good general guide to trouble-shooting or just remove the turntable and check out the contact between on the idler wheel/stepped spindle/inner turntable rim. The idler wheel should move up and down the 4 speed steps. Perhaps you did not secure the autochanger with its transit bolts during transit?

The speed change mechanism is largely under the chassis, you really need to remove the unit from the cabinet and have a good look at the linkage and mechanism.

Thank you all for your help and suggestions. I don't know the technical terms but having located the unit we discovered that the lever that changes had come away from the cog. It is now back and much improved but still playing slightly faster than it should - though not at chipmunk speed anymore! Thanks again.
