Default Lloyd’s BSR Record Player Stuck

Hello, I recently have been trying to get an old Lloyd’s turntable working and the start/stop/auto lever is jammed in place. The other functionalities of the machine such as the radio and tape player work just fine, but I don’t know how to get the turntable turning. The needle works and by spinning the turntable manually the needle arm positions itself properly. I’m just wondering if I need to further take apart the machine or if I’m not doing something right to get the turntable spinning.

There is much info in the Stickys above about servicing autochangers. If you lift the whole turntable out, you can see what may be jamming/obstructing the horizontal mechanical movement of the start/reject lever on the underside of the deckplate.

As Ed says, a basic visual inspection is called for first. If you remove the platter (the bit that goes round) after removing the central spring clip, you will be able to see most of the 'works'. Follow the guides in the sticky posts. You will probably find that most of the problems are due to hardened grease stopping the various levers moving. DON'T force anything, as many of the actuators are quite flimsy. Good luck.

Hello and welcome.

The problem will almost certainly be grease which has hardened and essentially turned into glue.

Some disassembly will be required to clean it off before you can re-lube with a general purpose grease. Don't force anything or the plastic bits will break.

Do a forum search as Edward suggests. Terms like BSR and AUTOCHANGER and GREASE or STUCK will be useful.

The whole deck can be removed from the Lloyds music centre by delving inside and flipping the two horizontal clips on the ends of the big "transit" screws to a vertical position so that they clear the holes in the board it's mounted on.

Nick.

EDIT: Crossed with Andrew. Apologies.

Standard BSR deck, the problem is dried out grease.

You have to remove the deck from the stereo, then the sub chassis:

Once thats out, warm it gently to around 60 degrees to melt the grease, then you can get the mechanism moving.

Clean all moving thoroughly with alcohol. make sure everything moves freely.

Apply fresh grease where necessary and refit everything.
