Re: Severe MW interference solved
An interesting new topic has developed here - can an incandescent lightbulb oscillate and produce RF?
There are some posts in the foregoing which clearly show LEDs - these are something entirely different. The Ofcom report showed a filament bulb (below) being held to be responsible for interfering with airband. I would like to continue that discussion in another thread. I have some almost identical bulbs on which I might try experiments. It doesn't belong here in Vintage Radio (domestic). Mod's please could you oblige? thanks. |

Re: Severe MW interference solved
OK, a new thread opened for RF from incandescent filament bulbs.
https://www.vintage-radio.net/forum/...d.php?t=181759 I've put nothing other than an intro in it, because if I did, the forum software would position it ahead of the intro... it's very punctilious about timestamps! I think your thread has come to a satisfactory conclusion, but anything on filament bulbs should go in the new thread where it can be found by searchers. David

Re: Severe MW interference solved
I assume branded led bulbs are compliant with relevant RFI standards, but suppose directly imported online bulbs simply don't bother.
A takeaway in a neighbouring town has recently decorated their front window with LED strips including an 'OPEN' led sign and when I drive past it makes my car radio erupt in whistles and buzzes, and that's on FM.

Re: Severe MW interference solved
Thanks for opening the new thread requested David.
I'm not sure why the link behaves the way it does. When I click it it behaves as if it's me that is posting a new thread. Was that as it should be? I can't see any intro. tnx |

Re: Severe MW interference solved
Looks like my fault. I was creating the new thread in a separate window and I guess I must have not saved it before closing. Thread created and the url in post above has been edited. Sincere apologies.
David

Re: Severe MW interference solved
Hi. I've been very lucky with MW interference regarding LED light bulbs as I use Philips Hue, hope I don't go OT. The worst thing I have had causing interference is a variable temperature soldering iron, wipes all of MW when switched on and an AAA battery charger, hissing when switched on.
Kind regards, Bob. |

Re: Severe MW interference solved
As re my early thread the level of interference in my house is very high in most parts so today i had a thought i took one of my repaired Vidor Lady Margaret CN429 battery radios down my large garden and tested it on M/W & L/W the reception was crystal clear on all stations no interference so maybe i should do it with all my sets to test there sound quality. Just a idea.TAB
