The Bush service manual states its the Wave Band indicator, presume it lines up with the dial at the right hand side. Full instructions and a diagram on how it is fitted in the manual page 7.

Unless I've got it wrong the component in the picture is the wave change indicator, the black tape shows through the three clear rectangles on the right hand side of the tuning scale glass.

EDIT:....Post crossed....!

Lawrence.

Thanks Frank and Lawrence - that makes sense now!

Hopefully I can get this component properly refitted - I have the Service Manual.

Anyone got a picture of what a pristine Wave Change/Band Indicator looks like?

I have never seen one but looking at the manual and photos of restored ones you just need to mark out where the white and black markers should go to line up as Lawrence states in post 123.
I would use black and white paint for the marks, the tape will fall off in time.

Oh dear - I'm normally such a careful person but this time it seems that I didn't take enough pictures from the correct angle or make any notes that detail the way in which the Wave Band indicator is attached to the set - aargh!

I have two bolts with largish heads which I assume allows them to be finger tightened and each bolt has a steel washer, a spring washer and a brass nut.

Can anyone with an AC91 advise on which order these are assembled - I know that the top bolt pushes through from the back and seems to lock to the Wave Changer while the bottom bolt pushes through from the front and seems to lock to the set while allowing the Wave Changer to slide up and down.

Any advice or guidance whatsoever would be helpful.

Thanks Tim - that helps a bit as I can see that the bottom bolt doesn't have the spring washer on this side below the brass nut.

Just need the running order on the opposite side for: -

1. spring washer
2. wave band indicator
3. steel washer??

I suppose I could just try all possible variations.

The Wave Band indicator mechanism is working very well after lubricating the spring with some light penetrating oil.

Thanks again Tim - your picture 3 clearly shows the assembly order for the top bolt so that is now sorted.

The bottom bolt needs to attach firmly yet still allow the wave band indicator to freely slide up and down.

Don't worry, I'll work it out unless someone has a chassis out the case??

I promise to do a full Roll of Honour when this is completed as it has been a collective effort both in terms of advice/guidance and replacement parts.

Oh dear - unsuccessful power up, with lamp limiter of course.

No sound whatsoever, only a very faint mains hum!

Bulb in set glowing very dimly, orange in fact, while bulb in lamp limiter was very bright!!

Switched wavebands and turned tuning knob, but nothing.

I could see that the two non-metallised valves were glowing dimly - all valves were checked for heater continuity.

Takes deep breath ...

This set uses an auto-transformer. Check the total DC resistance of the windings. It should be around 210 ohms.

Does the lamp in the lamp limiter still glow brightly if you remove a valve?
