Radio 4 fame at last and a date for the Diary! Should be very interesting account and it's so appropriate for a Wire-less program. I suppose AM listening on LW will be the done thing [or MW via a re-broadcaster] into a 1930's classic set. Dave W

Hi Jeffrey: am I confused or is this to be broadcast on Radio 4 as well on that date?

Thanks

John

Apologies, I think I've confused you John [and myself]-not Jeffrey. Somehow read WS as Radio 4. It should be on Radio 4, I will make the arrrangements. The rest of my comments still apply about listening in the right way-maybe with a cup of Ovaltine. The WS used to be on MW until recently didn't it?. Dave W

Should be well worth a listen, maybe a reminder nearer the time would be a good idea?

This being broadcast on the BBC World Service, not BBC Radio 4. In the UK the World Service can be received on 648 KHz (462 Metres) Medium Wave or on DAB.

The BBC Radio 4 long wave frequency 198 KHz does carry the World Service at night, but not in the afternoon.

BBC WS is on Freeview and DAB, and is also streamed from the BBC website. The prog may also be available as a podcast after transmission, though I haven't checked this.

Ah yes, you've explained my error. If you listen to Radio 4 a lot the switchover to WS after midnight tends to blur the difference in the mind and at other times. This WS Doc also has a R4 "feel" to it as well. I thought I'd read that the WS was coming off MW due to it's widespread availability on all the various digi platforms-perhaps not? Used to get it on MW in Sussex but never down deep in the Ramsbottom valley! Dave

The World Service also goes out on Radio 4 VHF FM at the same time. One o'clock (01.00) in the morning after Radio 4 signs off with the playing of the National Anthem. A bit of a nuisance having to stand at that time of day

I'm sure most people here will record the programme and make CD or cassette copies for those that might miss it.

I can't wait, will definitely be listening to this one, will probably use the free software called screamer radio to listen and record the program at the same time,

Did anyone create a link to this programme? I fell asleep and woke about 4 o'clock with flat batteries!
Was it the same one broadcast about 4 years ago on R4?I heard part of that.

There seems to be some confusion over the times.

The times quoted by Graham above, presumably from http://www.bbc.co.uk/worldservice/pr...les/2010/08/20 are clearly stated as BST.

But at http://www.bbc.co.uk/worldservice/do...r2010_tx.shtml it clearly shows them as GMT.

Take your pick. But I thought all times on the world service were in GMT.

I have a choice here - 648kHz (good signals), DAB or DTT.

I'll certainly be listening to this, and probably recording so my Chinese students can have a listen to it.

BBC WS is just wonderful for ex-pats like me. ...although I listen online rather than using a SW radio these days. I can listen to all of the BBC stations online, including local ones.
