Looking for an old model VHS VCR.
Hello
I am looking for the model of an old VHS player that my parents owned back in the late 80's / early 90's. I'd dearly love to find this old player, and buy it again for old times sake. The problem is I am having problems remembering the manufacturer. However, the player did have a distinctive feature, which I have never seen on another VHS recorder. There was a pull down panel set into the front of the unit, which was back-lit ( I think green LCD ) which allowed the user to programme in scheduled recordings, up to 8 if memory serves me correctly. I have searched through what seems like endless amounts of google images, but nothing looks like the player I am hunting for. Does this ring a bell with anyone please ? Thanks |

Re: Looking for an old model
There is a bloke on youtube (i think he's under the name Techmoan) who does features on 'obsolete' and obscure equipment, mainly audio and video. He strikes me as someone who might know.

Re: Looking for an old model
Sounds rather like a Ferguson 3V48 to me, the facia was a medium grey colour. The clock display was separate to the timer display which was hidden on the pull down panel. There was also another model the number of which escapes me which was identical to look at but a much darker colour, almost black.

Re: Looking for an old model VHS VCR.
There certainly was a Ferguson that had that feature, with a greenish backlit LCD. There could be a similar JVC badged one. I think one of the better Philips sets had a sinilar hinged panel but I think that was for the hi-fi settings.

Re: Looking for an old model VHS VCR.
Anything like the Philips VR833 or VR948 (S-VHS?). I can't recall many VCR's having backlit LCD displays. Possibly one or two Sony and Grundig machines..

Re: Looking for an old model VHS VCR.
I'm not aware of any JVC equivalent Fivos but there may well have been. If it's any help it was the first Ferguson model to have an LP Hi-Fi audio only record mode.
