That's great do we know what the differences with the 339 are?

My copy of the Handbook is dated July 1944 makes no mention of an A version so I am wondering if there were component changes brought about by shortages?

Cheers

Not certain of the difference but I think I have a 339 as well and will try and take note of external difference which I think there is.

Circuit wise I need to check whether I have both or not.

Hello Mike,
My set of a 3339, 339 & a 343 G/Osc. all went to "Mark James" from this Forum. Joining his existing collection. I ken he's a very busy chap, but I'm sure he'd get round to posting info.
By the by, did you ever come across the 35mm Camera attachment for the 3339/339 Oscillographs ? Something I failed to find during my Cossor endeavours.

Regards, David

Unfortunately I only have the 1428 Camera with the 1431 motor drive. (1035, 1049 and the 1059) which is not suitable for the 3339 and 339
I saw one for sale but it had already sold about 2 years ago.
I have a picture of one but can't lay my hands on it I have obviously stuck it in a wrongly labelled folder somewhere.
Cheers

I thought both my examples (both in need of total restoration) were both 339's but it turns out ones a 339A the only external difference I can see is the CRT phosphor on the 339A is brilliant white, where as on the 339 is sort of a pale grey/green) If you can get to your it would be good to know if you observe the same.

I am not in a position to pull them apart at the moment but maybe later.

Cheers

Just found my 339 and it is marked M.E (R) in paint, so looks like a refurb at some time.

Both crt,s just look grey and the same. The 339 is missing an on/off switch and something is missing beneath the switch too. Possibly need to check the A and see if the front panel is similar.

The A cabinet is in crackle black and the 339 is grey, that looks original but not sure about the A model.

This is my 339 and 339A

Externally they seem to look the same.

The 339A is the one on the left.

Cheers

As all my stuff went to Mark James, I'm relying just on memory, so bear with me. As the range of Oscillographs changed over the years from early 1939 to about 1944. I.e. the 3339(Puckle T/B ?) up to the 339B, depending on the spec required by the WD, the timebase circuitry was changed, the Amp valves were changed to 807's, and there were three types of ph. CRT coatings required. Particularly as the range was used for photographic analysis of waveforms.
I know that I sometimes bang-on about folk using "Search", my apologies. But, its getting on for 10 years since I put out a heap of 3339/339/343 Thread posts - should anyone wish to delve into the details & see pictures.
I've attached a picture of the Camera. One has never been found, but thought it might jog a memory or two for the benefit of 339 collectors, should one be found.

Regards, David

I did wonder Mike, whether my 339A had been externally refurbed, I have had this 50 plus years and was mint then and still is.

The 339 is a mystery now as I mentioned the on/off switch is missing But there is another hole beneath it .Perhaps time I took the case off and looked.

Never opened it up and had that a few years too.
