Default pS42G10B

Hello All,
Why does my Plasma tv have two leds in the remote? They are not in parallel, in fact they are set at angles to each other and only one of them emits IR when asked. I can only assume the remote also receives signals but there is no mention of any poshness like this in the manual. Thanks anyone.

This is a Panasonic plasma.
I have no idea! I've just pulled a generic Panasonic remote from that era to bits and there's just the one LED that pokes through the front.
You obviously have a very special remote control. Can we have a picture?

Glyn, thanks for your note, used to be high tech, did a total of 50 years for LG and Sony. Tried photo plan, no go. It's a common handset, I'll see if my carers can help. Damned stroke and dementia. Ta

I think you could be correct Tony that it's a receiver to copy functions in "learn mode".
Maybe the same remote control can be used with other TV's that do have the learn facility.

I suspect this might not be an original Panasonic remote, and as Les suggests might be a 'learning' remote. Panasonic TV remotes were all basically the same with an LED poking through the front and a long slim battery cover on the back covering two AA batteries, one above the other.

Using Google to find 'Panasonic TV remote control' comes up with several images of the original style.

Wish I knew the art of posting pics, it's a Panasonic h\set. Used to be in tv trade for 50 years. Now forgotten to even make a pot of tea!
I'll persevere. It pays to be obstinate. Tony.

Well, I'm foxed.
Here's an identical remote and no mysterious LED.
Help!

It's not identical.

Tony's remote seems to be able to control an extra apparatus, maybe a home theatre. I suspect it could have some kind of learning mode.

I've got one like Tony's, had it for years, never noticed the 2nd opto device !.

Just tested, and it does look like both are transmitters, but the lower one is angled down quite bit.

Maybe it's to allow the user a bit of leeway, in that you can see and press the buttons if the remote is tilted slightly towards you, then the lower LED is now more horizontal and pointing at the telly.

That was one of my ideas, I don't have logical thinking any more, it just puzzles me with respect to the 2nd led. Ta everyone.

My dear old dad when controlling the Pana freeview box beneath the television always pointed the remote at the TV.
The second LED meant this worked. Seemed a good idea to me I always though it intentional.

Well, you live and learn! I have a boxful of Panasonic remotes and, yes, two of them have this second LED. Never noticed it before.
Sorry for doubting you Tony!
