Default Post Office Tower London 60 years since Official Opening

It is worth noting that today is the 60th anniversary of the then Prime Minister Harold Wilson opening the new Post Office Tower in London on the 8th October 1965 the tallest building in the UK at the time. Commemorative stamps were produced to mark the occasion.
I am sure for many on this Forum it has featured or impacted their lives either as a visitor or its role in technology such as the distributor of the 625 line TV service.
My own memory was from standing on the roof of the Council offices in Catford with a BT engineer and pair of binoculars to see if we could get a backup microwave link from the tower for the Council.

The only time in my life I ever had an award “for service to rural broadband” in 2015. An all expenses paid weekend in London with a meal & presentation at the BT tower.

I was born in 1971 and only really remember the PO tower from the Goodies TV series but remember thinking it looked old and decrepit even then so must say I'm surprised to learn it was nearly new at the time! Maybe it was the giant kitten knocking it over?

I always thought the Thames Television logo which includes the GPO Tower, was a contrived image, but apparently it's exactly the skyline as seen from the Embankment near Blackfriars.
