Default Ultra Model 6214 Reel to Reel Tape Recorder

Does anyone know anything about this model?

I've just acquired one in seemingly good condition but before I try powering it up I'd like to know something about it.

I've searched the Web and so far have drawn a blank.

NB: The title should read "Ultra Model ....." perhaps a Mod could change it for me.

This uses the usual Thorn DC43 deck. I see the data is up top;

I couldn't have asked for a faster response!

Thank you so much, I'll get the data sheet immediately.

The Ultra model 6214 is a 2 track, single speed machine, which uses the Thorn DB21 tape deck, not the DC43 (which is a 3 speed, 4 track deck).

However, the service data reference given is for the correct electrical service manual, covering the Ferguson 3224, Marconiphone 4214 & Ultra 6214 tape recorders, part number 00P1-1816.
A separate service manual covers the tape deck mechanism: Thorn DB21 & DB42 tape deck mechanisms, part number 00P1-936. https://www.service-data.com/product...70/8112/m16870

The main problem with your deck is the drying out of the grease in the bearings for the swivelling arms which move the two turntables to engage fast forward and fast rewind modes. This results in the two turntables not moving very much/at all.

@dazzlevision - Thank you and yes you are spot on - the set works, after a fashion, on playback and record but will not fast forward or rewind. the turntables do not move at all to engage with the friction wheels.

Otherwise it seems to be in excellent condition electrically and just needs a good clean up and lubrication where necessary.

I have downloaded service data for both the electrical and mechanical parts.
