Default SS 8050 transistor high current equivalent

I'm having a go at repairing one of those electrical fly swatters. I attempted to get a wasp with it but that was the final nail in the coffin and the switching transistor failed. The unit draws around. 0.35 Amps at 3 V dc so looking at the datasheet the original transistor is a bit on the weak side. Is there something with a bit more 'beef' that has similar characteristics? If not its no problem to order up an exact replacement.

Many thanks for any info.

Pretty sure I've seen these used in florescent bulbs a lot.. you could try a BD139 but it depends at what frequency your circuit is working at, a NTE295 might do,but they're not easy to get hold of in the UK.
Both have a different pinout to the ss8550 so the base lead might need insulating and bending over.

Thanks Andy. Worth a try. At a guess its about 7 kHz max from the whistle.

I had an extra 'S8050' supplied recently with a couple of speaker protection kits, I think the S8050 & SS8050 are the same (?). If so, and if it's any use to you, just pm me your details.
