Default BT Relate 2000 videophone

I recently purchased a pair of BT Relate 2000 videphones, but one of them has a problem with the display. Any suggestions of what might be causing this would be much appreciated - any advice on fixing it even more so.

In the images below I show on the left the one with a good display (including a closeup of the screen - though the actual image does not come out well in the photograph). To the right is the one with the poorly screen.
