Default GMB's web site has moved

I thought that BT would one day knife my little web site and now I find it had happened already.

Fortunately I had set up a Raspberry Pi with a copy of the site, and even registered a domain for it! But I wasn't sure if I really wanted to run live off a Pi on my desk, but circumstances have intervened.

So my "new" web site is to be found here: http://air-ministry.uk

It was nice of BT to keep you informed.

Are you saying that the server is a Pi at the end of a domestic ADSL line? If so, it's performing very well, though it's not a very graphics heavy site which helps.

Fast here too, I like a simple website, like here, content over style!

Yes, it's a Pi2 running Apache2.
It isn't quite a domestic line although it might as well be. It is supposed to be a business broadband "infinity" line from BT for all the difference that I have seen - gives a totally domestic service on a good day.

I think people forget just how fast a self-contained web site can be. Almost everything these days is working through ad-tracking servers and streaming advert video and google analytics. I never cease to be amazed that it works at all. Take a look at the web source code of a typical modern commercial site and you will see why they are slow.
Are you not driven to distraction by the keystroke-by-keystroke active scripting?

Well my little web server isn't doing that. But look out, because I am about to build a load of more complex services on it although you won't be seeing much of them directly.

There are much faster web servers than Apache if you want to optimise performance, notably Lighttpd and Monkey.

I just wish it was easy to find, like it used to be.

I asked Google and Bing to scan it but the results are a disappointment, possibly because the IP address is not considered to be good enough.

I also wish I could tell the search engines that the old site was replaced.

It will gradually move up the rankings, particularly if you keep it online 24/7 and persuade other sites to link to it.

It is a very useful resource and still seems to be working well. I too have found it very useful.

Thanks for maintaining it.
