Must confess, I really don't fret over this sort of thing. One thing my uncle always told me was "Don't waste time over-analysing".

If an old part has lasted 50 years before failing, and I replace it with a new one (which will have improved technology so's likely to be more-reliable than the part I'm replacing) and - in 50 years it fails again - well, by then I'll be long-dead so I won't be caring two hoots about it and it's going to be someone-else's problem.

Always assuming that the device to which the part is fitted still exists and is usable in 100 years!
