I'm a mug!
Not vintage or technology, but I can't fettle without a brew! Kick-start coffee (caffeinated) up to noon, then decaffeinated after.
Strenuous work such as cleaning rexine requires longer drinks, sugar - free dandelion and burdock being my favourite. The choice of mug is of course vital. What's your poison?

Re: I'm a mug!
Real coffee in the morning, then Assam leaf tea in the afternoon.
That’s a Ferguson group PCB behind it, with those characteristic notches along one edge. Last edited by dazzlevision; 17th Mar 2019 at 3:48 pm. Reason: Add photo |

Re: I'm a mug!
Black coffee for me from morning to late night, normally instant (Blend 37 to start the day, Alta Rica thereafter), but ground and made in the Cona on special occasions, with just a daily mug or two of tea. My usual mug is a memento of the Victorian Gothic former seminary where I was a frequent volunteer until we left County Durham for Norfolk, and its most usual stand a resting Belling Champion convector, currently a very early No.1. The storage radiators shouldn't need its help again before next winter.

Start the day with.....
Ordinary tea, then Instant coffee Earl grey tea Green tea Ordinary tea or two Finally an instant coffee to take out to my room in the evening. Invariably drunk cold since my individual cup warmer is now too far from the nearest power socket. Peter |

Re: I'm a mug!
I drink tea exclusively. Does that make me a tea totaller?
Has anyone else noticed that tea tastes best in straight-sided mugs? |

Re: I'm a mug!
I know it may not be cool, hot tea is my favourite drink, except when I’m out on the town.

Re: I'm a mug!
Cheap instant coffee for me, (Either Morrisons own brand or Lyons) strong and with lots of sugar. I can't start the day without a large mug of the stuff along with a cigarette, stupidly, although the only alcohol I touch is for cleaning purposes...
Mug is/are the old Sports Direct freebies that hold roughly a pint. Apart from the first mug which has to be warm, I generally prefer it after it's gone cold. |

Re: I'm a mug!
I suppose sleep must be a matter of luck and/or whatever substances you're used to. I go through probably six large mugs of fairly strong coffee on a typical day, pay no attention at all to how close to bedtime the last of them may be, am as likely as not to be spending a while with the laptop just before bed, and sleep has come to me as swiftly as I could possibly wish it to this side of childhood: when I never touched coffee and had nothing at all to do with computer screens.

Tea. Also useful for softening plastic pipe that doesn't want to flex- without burning it.

Re: I'm a mug!
Is this about the mug or the beverage?
Beverage:- I drink tea both with and without milk (but no sugar), sometimes coffee, and plenty of water. Mug:- I have one marked "Grundig", though to be honest, it is up in the loft, not in regular use. I much prefer to drink from bone china, and that is earthenware. I was employed in bone china manufacture for twenty years after all. 10 years after leaving that industry, I took a temporary job with a kiln manufacturer sorting out their problem kilns (they had many at the time) and one was at a factory where I saw a batch of these passing through. I asked for one and was given two but still prefer my china. I will try to go up and get it out for a photo. Les. |

Re: I'm a mug!
Tea- at one time I was ( like most GPO/PO BLOKES) a tea a holic. How many of us old GPO/PO hands remember our apprentice days with the OH /UG gang and the morning tea routine. But many years ago, I worked for a firm that had a high percentage of Asian firms as their clients. And in that society, the visitor was extended courtesy. Coffee was the norm at most times, but at certain times tea was offered. but it was Tea made in the Asian traditional manner. Boil water, add tea, boil. Add sugar & milk-boil. I knew I would not like it and left cup ,hoping that it would be missed.

Re: I'm a mug!
I drink strong single blend black tea when at home and black coffee when I'm out, regardless of the time of day.
Never been able to find anybody capable of making a decent brew Downunder, hence the coffee away from home (and that can vary from "use as weedkiller" to not bad at times). |

Re: I'm a mug!
Fresh coffee first thing, the first one in bed unless im up at 3am for work. Then another two or three cups of the same, always black and always Lavazza. Then after about 11am liquorice tea or mint tea.
I also use nice thin cups or mugs, never thick walled buckets. I don't have a special cup but I hate dark coloured ones and can't drink from one with a dark Interior. No fussy floral patterns either, just plain cups please.

Re: I'm a mug!
I had a nearly 30 year old Acorn Computers mug which i got with my A440 when I bought it. But my eldest decided to use it a couple of months back. It sat on her window sill with half a coffee in it for two weeks until we started wondering what the smell was. I found it eventually and the smell was so bad I couldn’t face using it again ... now it’s some metal heat proof ones (like a vacuum flask) that I bought in Argos about 20 years ago for £5 for 4. My other half has been trying to throw them away for 10 of those years
As for the beverage I’m a coffee snob but extremely lazy so it’s a Bosch Tassimo machine here. Costa black americano. No sugar. |
