Trio TS-830S Display problem
I'm trying to get the display on a TS-830S going.
I've cleaned all the connectors and sockets. The 12 volt lines are OK. I've got 5 volts on D1 but only 1.5 volts on pin 16 of Q6. Can't get at C7 without removing the counter unit board from the chassis, and not sure how to do that. Can anyone with experience of the radio help please? Richard |

Re: Trio ts-830s Display problem
There is a dedicated Yahoo group at
https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/...0_530_830/info which has dealt with this problem on several occasions. A very helpful bunch of folk, mostly in the US and with useful links for parts etc. - Peter |

Re: Trio TS-830S Display problem
Don't know whether you're aware of the mods.dk website.
Given how many Trio/Kenwood TS830s were sold over many years and has a good reputation for reliability, with the passage of time, certain faults have manifested themselves. the Mods.DK site has quite a list of faults and modifications, including inevitably the display problem. Membership is free, but has limitations - it particular, you can only view one item per day. Free membership benefits: View article 1 article daily View all articles for one model in one click? No View pictures 2 pictures in 4 days View forum message 1 message daily Download manual 1 manual in 4 day There's a 'VIP, membership, which involves payment or uploading manuals. These links might help: http://vss.pl/mods.dk/mods.php3-radi...lectid=all.htm Full list relevant to 830 issues: https://www.mods.dk/view.php?Article...9215ae5b3d54df Relevant to display problems: https://www.mods.dk/view.php?Article...isplay-Problem I owned an 830 from new, from the mid-1980s until I sold it about five years ago as I'd not been active on air for maybe fifteen years. I used it little, especially on transmit, though I did get the 'Worked All Continents Award' on it. (Indonesia, Brazil, Oz, Africa, Japan etc). In all the years that I had it, it never skipped a beat. The receiver was excellent, and the AT230 separate ATU would tune just anything. I think most display problems are cured by cleaning the connectors and sockets, but you've already done that. Also, occasionally cured by rectifying 'dry' joints. Hope that helps a bit Richard. Good luck in sorting it.

Re: Trio TS-830S Display problem
Thank you very much David for the info.
This 830s is perfectly usable, with the analogue read out and crystal calibrator, but I'd like to get the display going if possible. The Yahoo group has been helpful 73 Richard |
