Default Pre war Television. Rogers.

I recently cleared out a load of old 'Picture Post' Magazines. Some were really rough with missing covers and pages so I have been recycling them as packaging. I found this interesting advert for a Pre war Rogers Majestic TV radiogram "With Baird Vision unit" .
I thought I would post it here, does anyone remember Rogers?
I also have a few adverts for radio sets of the time I will put them on a separate thread in the Vintage radio.

That's an interesting advert , an American manufacturer you don't see very often over here.
Not even listed on jonz valve page.
I wonder if any were sold over here ?

Is it the same Rogers? I thought the hi-fi company was in Beckenham, Kent.

In 1939, R M Electric Ltd, Majestic Works, Oaklands Road, London, NW2 (advert for the “Rogers–Majestic” console radio); they also offered a model11/9T with a Baird vision unit fitted at 95 Guineas.

Later, RM Electric Ltd. Majestic Works, Second Avenue, Team Valley, Gateshead 11 (in 1944 & 51). Wartime utility radio makers code U25. Maker of radio chassis, battery eleiminators, power resistors, transformers, coils and chokes.

They also made finished equipment, such as record players, under the “Strad” brand name.

In 1956, they were acquired by Masteradio Ltd. and relocated to 21 Seaton Place, London, NW1. It would appear the company name was originally Rogers-Majestic. Probably connected with or licenced by, the Canadian firm Rogers Majestic Corporation Limited (formed by the merger of Rogers Vacuum Tube Company with Majestic Corporation of Chicago in 1928).

Rogers Developments Co., 106 Heath Street, Hamstead, London, NW3 (in 1948). Founded in 1947 by Mr J D Rogers.

On 1st July 1950, they relocated to Rodevco House, 116 Blackheath Road, Greenwich, SE10.

In 1957 and 1970, Rogers Developments (Electronics) Ltd, “Rodevco Works”, 4-14 Barmeston Road, Catford, London, SE6.

Maker of HiFi and audio test equipment.

On 31st October 1975, the firm ceased trading and went into liquidation.

By March 1976, a firm called Swisstone Electronics Ltd had bought the premises, stock, plant and key personnel of the old company and offered repairs to Rogers products.

Subsequently (by 1982), Jim Rogers had formed J R Loudspeakers (W.World, Mar 82, p72).

Interesting... I associate Rogers/Majestic more with valves fitted in some WWII-era military gear imported from Canada as part of 'Lend-Lease' support. They had glass envelopes sprayed with black metallised paint as shielding.
