Default Ferguson 3258 Tape Recorder

Hello

I've just brought my old Ferguson 3258 tape recorder down from the loft where it's been for many years and I have found three broken drive belts. I can work out where 2 of the 3 belts go but I,m at a loss to see where the other one goes. It's approximately 55mm in diameter. I have the owners manual and a BRC service manual but neither help.

I would appreciate any advice or help as to where the belt goes or a source where the details may be found.

Regards

No, not the counter. I found that one broken below the tape deck. The one I'm not sure of was found on the topside of the deck and was towards the right side.

Thanks

Bill

I already have that manual and only the front page shows the largest belt. That manual shows all the electrical parts and components but I believe the tape deck is covered in a supplemental manual.

Thanks, Bill.

You could do it by a process of elimination. Since you know where the other belts go. Belts tend to leave a black mark where they have been, so that might help. Once you have found the motor spindle where it was driven, the size of the belt will cut down the area it can fit. Just look for the black marks on pulleys to guide you.

I've managed to get the manual covering the tape deck and the belt is a friction belt that goes under the right hand spool carrier.

Thanks for everyone's help.

You need to establish which Thorn deck is used, you can download them from the top right hand corner on this forum (in red)

Type in Thorn and it will show you the following Thorn tape recorder decks:

DB21 Tape Deck (Record or Tape Deck)
DB42 Tape Deck (Record or Tape Deck)
DC43 Tape Deck (Record or Tape Deck)
DC432 Tape Deck (Record or Tape Deck)
FTD3 Tape Deck (Record or Tape Deck)
FTD4 Tape Deck (Record or Tape Deck)

Hello,

The Ferguson 3258 stereo tape recorder uses the Thorn DF415 tape deck (the last of their open reel tape decks) and it is very different to the tape decks in the above list.

Yes you are right Dazzlevision. I have the BRC service manual for the 3258 and it states that it is fitted with the BRC DF415 tape deck. That manual states that the information about the tape deck is contained in the DD210-DD410-DF410-DF422 Tape Deck Service Manual. That is the manual that I mentioned in my earlier post that I managed to obtain this afternoon.

Many thanks for all replies.

Regards
Bill
