Default Vintage Ultra TR88 Transistor Portable Radio

Hi. I’m looking for the above radio that I want to buy.

Does anybody have one for sale, to repair or otherwise?

Thanks in anticipation.

I would also like one! I sold the similar boxed “Defiant” variant at Retrotechuk last May and have regretted it ever since. An unusual UK radio that could pass for Far Eastern.

Well, several UK companies tested the waters before seeming to decide that part of the market wasn't for them. I have a Defiant A4 and very similar Alba Sprite: have never met a TR88, it looks as though its circuit board must be a different design from those two as the positions of volume and tuning controls are reversed.

The Ultra TR88 is also identical to the Pilot PR288 I believe.

Hi Peter.

Yes, I had one as a kid, and have been looking for one for ages.

Hi.

The one on eBay sold for £175 FYI.

Absolutely ridiculous.

Just means at least two people wanted it badly and there aren't very many to go around. That said, I think my Alba Sprite with its leather case was something more like a fiver locally, with a valved NHS hearing aid and a couple of George VI beer glasses among the many other items thrown in...
