SAQ Grimeton
Just a reminder that SAQ from Grimeton radio station will be transmitting on Sunday 30th June about 10.am UK time and again at 1.00pm UK time on the very low frequency of 17.2 kHz. A CW message should be heard.

Re: SAQ Grimeton
What aerials are most folks using and sets I wonder?
I have an Eddystone EC958 here, though not fired up for years. That goes down to 10Khz.

Re: SAQ Grimeton
A home made loop antenna, almost a copy of the Wellbrook loop but with more turns on the loop and an output transformer more suited to LF. The Wellbrook drops off quickly below about 50 kHz and can just hear SAQ, but the homebrew one gets a good signal.

Re: SAQ Grimeton
I have often wondered if an old CRT degaus coil could be tuned to the correct frequency and amplified up to give a couple of volts of signal.

Re: SAQ Grimeton
Just received SAQ on the homebrew loop. Using an SDRPlay RSP2 receiver it was an easy copy. Attached screenshot.

Re: SAQ Grimeton
Just heard it on my Marconi Atalanta with a 'long' wire of 60ft at about 15 ft height. Seemed to be stronger than usual? I don't know how weather affects VLF, if at all?
