Default Pls vote for date of Sept Manchester Swapmeet

Hi All

Re: previous thread "Manchester Swapmeet Saturday 20th Jan 2007", would those hoping to attend next "do" in Sept please vote for saturday 1st or sunday 2nd - or vote for don't care in which case I will take that as an indication of your hoping to attend. Once readers of the bulletin have had a chance to contact me as well I will name the day, providing ofcourse that I can be confident that the best part of a couple of dozen are keen, to cover costs.

Thanks John

Another one added too.

Saturday is chores day for me. If I go to the supermarket on a Friday they still have the dregs of the week, if I go on a Sunday then all the fresh stuff has usually gone.

So Saturday is chores day, Sunday is Playday and hence going to an event usually means it has to be a Sunday.

TTFN,
Jon

Although my vote was for Saturday (in line with my previous comments), I have no strong objections to the particular Sunday in question (2nd September) - as things stand at present I have no commitments for that day beyond my usual Sunday observance.

Dave, to be honest have done nowt further. had written to the bvws in hope that my letter re; the old event would be published and that a suggestion of a new event would be more widely publicised, but it didn't !
That said, we know from the forum that there's a dozen or so reliables who will pitch up, so maybe i should email the bvws and ask them how, at a lateish stage, I could circulate all members with a notification, and also while I'm at it, persuade them to fund the event as a bvws swapmeet sans public.
Will update the thread with this text and with further news. Cheers J

Hi All,
Dave Moll has prompted me to consider the northern swapmeet again. If we are to have a manchester do it cannot be 2nd sept as I gather it will definitely be too late to be publicised in the Sept bulletin. I now suggest Sun 28th October. Do keep an eye on thread and post to express interest. Thanks JM

Erm, as to where is TBA. Poss same place but will enquire. We are talking BVWS only (plus any "temporary" members signed in on the day).

meantime..... IDEAS TO ENLIVEN THE EVENT
  • Nicest Restoration Competition ?
  • Nicest collection (of any kind) ?
  • Best Homebrew Project (of any kind) ?
  • Demonstration of unusual/amusing Standards Converters ?
  • Interesting lecture/talk/slideshow to otherwise captive audience ?
  • Loudest/Best Home Made Valve Amplifier ?

Hello John, All,

The date you propose for the Manchester meeting is probably not a very good choice. The reason being that it falls on the same day as the Audiojumble in Tonbridge Kent.
The BVWS always have a table at that event, and one has been arranged for this coming event already, so we would not be able to attend in Manchester.
Having a quick look at the events diary on the website, I would suggest the following dates in October/November be considered. As it it a little furtehr away from people taking late holidays and avoiding the rip off prices applied at times when the dear children are on summer holidays. It is also niceley spaced around other events.

Oct. 14th
Oct. 28th
Nov. 4th

For regional meetings the BVWS will cover any losses incurred so that the event broke even, and you would not be out of pocket. The BVWS public liability insurance would also be covering the event.

We will advertise the event in the Bulletin (next one being September!) and also on the BVWS website of course.

If you still have your letter for the BVWS in electronic form, then please e-mail it to me and I will get it included in the September Bulletin, I think there is just enough space left, as the Bulletin has already been proof read!

I would certainly attend if dates were possible.

Best regards,

Mike...

I think 28-10 would be OK for me - in fact somewhat more so than 02-09.

...IDEAS TO ENLIVEN THE EVENT...
One thing I'd like to see encouraged is to get members to bring and display "something relevent". I guess a lot of members will have something special that sits in their collection and never gets the opertunity to be seen by anyone else. It would need to be organised in advance as to what is bought along so as to make sure there was good variety, and what should also be encouraged is some effort going into displaying the item. Could be period brochure, or the sets original documentation, or simply a brief but well prepared little writeup. At a small event you can't afford to give to much space to such a display, but I'm sure a corner of the room could be used, or even bung it near the BVWS stand where someone will be able to help keep an eye on the stuff ?

An interesting talk is a good idea too _if_ there is a spare seperate room in which to do it, which is unlikly at smaller events.

TTFN,
Jon

Venue for 28/10 2pm-5pm (pencilled in by bookings lady - deposit to be paid)

Sale Moor Community Centre
Norris Road
Sale
M33 2TN

...not the same as the last venue but same area. There are buses run along Norris Road and will advise what these are if anyone wishes to find out. Otherwise easy from M60 but probably 15 mins walk from Sale Tram station, or 5 mins walk from the 41 bus route from Manchester Centre if alighting at Boundary Grove / Norris Rd.
