For ten quid I'd have put up with a non-functioning continuity buzzer or tried to fix it.

I collected one of these today, a great meter for the price. I see the manual refers to an adaptor MT-2007-C for measuring capacitors smaller than 25 microfarads. Maplin do not list this item, and while Google does find it on the Proskit web site and in a 2009 Proskit catalogue, for suppliers it only found a stockist in Thailand and an obsolete parts specialist in the USA. Does anyone know what the adaptor does, and if it would be possible to construct a substitute? I assume it must include some sort of oscillator. It would be useful to be able to measure capacitance.

Just been it my local Maplins for a MT2017 meter, sold out as we know. Good news, new stock expected around 26th Nov. I have paid my £9.99 and it will be delivered for that price.

I had an interest in getting ng another one,so ordered again when I was emailed to say they were in stock again,I've just collected it today and every thing works. Also the battery case is different and it's very easy to put the batteries in.

Be interesting to know how much effect this forum has had on Maplin's sales of these

There are other sellers of the MT2017, I've just seen one on the net for £56+ inc free postage. Mine has just arrived, the new style MT2017 has the 10amp socket between the + & - V sockets and has the improved battery access. Overall not a bad meter for £8.33 + vat & free postage to me. Maplin have triumphed with this one, maybe a "loss leader" I wonder how long present stocks will last with all our publicity?

I've also 'gone green'. I ordered one on line for pick up at local Maplin store and collected it today. Haven't yet found anything I don't like about it!

No a.c. Amps measurement?

Looks interesting. Maybe if my Avo8 dies...
But I also had a £5 Maplin DMM and the only issue I can see that is common is that the leads have long exposed tips. Having shorted components when measuring, I would always recommend sleeving the test lead probe tips to within about 2mm.

Now only £6.99!

I just bought another one. The two should last me out.

I've just ordered one as well. Be stupid not to. Also ordered a 17 piece phone repair kit.

No mention in the spec as to the DC Sensitivity.

IE: 1,000/2,000/10,000/20,000 Ohms per Volt?

20k would be nice.

Won't matter for some applications, (to peak a tuned circuit etc) but it will when, for example, measuring low voltages across potential dividers.

Maybe there's a reason that the sensitivity isn't mentioned in the spec, as in: 'don't draw attention to limitations'?

The µA & mA scales are very cramped, but then that's due to the compact size.

I guess most users would resort to a digital meter for measuring current.

The specs wrong anyway - it states: 'DC current from 250mA to 10A'.

Unless my eyes are deceiving me, there's a 50µ range, then 2.5 mA, 250mA, and via a separate socket, up to 10Amps.

But for seven sovs, best not get too picky.

I magnified the image David, 20k/V DC and 9k/V AC. Not too shoddy I'd say!.
Which ties in with the observation of a 50uA range.

Looking at one of mine (I have three) the sensitivity (written on the scale) is 20k/volt DC and 9k/volt AC. Currents are 50u, 2.5, 25 and 250 switched plus the 10A socket.

A couple of useful additions to your 'normal' analogue mater are a beep continuity test, instantaneous in operation (unlike lots of DMMs) and a handy +/- 5V and 25V centre zero range which you can swing a couple (10 on 25V) of volts either way with the zero ohms pot.

I was impressed at £10.

The 50uA current range is also an indication of the Ohms Per Volt...

I missed the ballistic capacitance scale and the transistor testing ability.

Thanks guys.

Looking again at the picture, the sensitivity can just be seen below the red notice 'Fuse & Diode Protection', bottom LH of the dial.

As has been stated, 20K OPV DC, 9K OPV AC.

Can't complain at that!

I know this is possibly teetering on the edge of the eBay rules, but they are selling them on ebay still from Maplin's Outlet at £6.99 as well + £2.99 delivery (same as online price). At least if you pay though there and it doesn't turn up, you can get your money back via paypal.

And if you buy more than one it's still £2.99 postage, I keep telling myself I don't need more than three. Another advantage of 20k/V is that is matches the readings on vintage radio data sheets.

I blew mine up within a week of getting it so YMMV on that "three is enough" estimate
