Default Radio Workshops (Now with a poll).

Hi All,

Following some prodding from other members of this forum (as well as one or two others) I am putting the feelers out fo interest in a Radio Workshop.

I know both Gerry, and Chas have their own very different events, this is in no way meant to replace, or steal their limelight....

The concept is as follows.

I hire a hall, with plenty of room, say for 20 attendees.

Tea and Coffee, along with soft drinks on tap.

We then assemble a group of atendees, all like minded souls, turn up one Sunday (TBA) with our victims and have a good fun day working with each other repairing whatever takes our fancy. The idea is that with a good number of us there will be a good spread of experience, and we should be able to fix most things.

Now, if we could attract a few "experts" to come along too that would be great!

The idea is for this to be both fun and social - a chance to discuss with other likeminded collectors, and gain some experience at the same time.

Now, there is going to be some expense, this would be kept to a miniumum - with this in mind lunch arrangements could be quite flexible - either bring your own, or we could organise a small buffet lunch, or if you are feeling rich there is a very nice pub not far from the hall, that sells "posh nosh"

So, what say the masses? would anyone be interested in joining us - rough estimate of cost would be £15-20 a head maximum.

Again, if any of the experts out there want to offer their assistance, and join us in a pleasant day reviving poorly vintage tech say so here!

There is no reason that this couldnt become a small swapmeet at the same time, so any suggestions would be valid.

Currently only aiming this at forum members...

Cheers
Sean

Sean,

As a complete novice this would be so incredibly worthwhile it's not something I would want to miss. Unless of course, you say the hall is on the Outer Hebrides or something

I'm possibly interested but the location is not great for me travelling from Hereford.

Hello Sean.

Outstanding idea just 1 big problem, I live in South Yorkshire. I hope the workshop is a big sucsess and maybe then we can open one up north.

Regards Kev.

Granted this is going to be a bit south eastish for some - why not combine the trip down with a night away - there are a fair few attractions not far from Cottered.

As soon as we have sufficient numbers we can go ahead with final costings.

Hereford and Rotherham aren't that far! Ive been to both places just for a quick pint!

Sean,
What a good idea, and why not have other workshops up and down the country. I for one would happily organize something on a regular basis up here.

It could be a useful addition to the calendar of events. However one advantage of the wireless museum workshops, and of the Harpenden events is that they can be reached by car or public transport. Not sure how you would get to Cottered without a car.

How are you going to get to a workshop loaded with sets and spares without a car?

If both me and the Marina are on the road anytime soon I'd be interested in popping along.

Perhaps System A could go too and you could swap Marina's!

If, and it's a very big if, I might be persuaded to run more than one (someone suggested one every two months.....)

This will be successful I am sure , what about having similar events in different regions. That overcomes the travel issues and will keep the numbers to levels that are manageable.

Hmmmm....I quite like this idea. I have just seen the hall on google earth, nice place. If it were to be a mini swapmeet as well, I may be interested in a stall. This may help to fill the gap left by there being one less Harpenden this year.
