That's a shame.
There seems to be fewer and fewer transformer manufacturers.
Not Surprising i guess given the prevalence of SMPS these days.

It's not so much for mains transformers I worry, as I think toroids will be available for the forseeable. It's Valve output transformers where its a bit of a "black art" to wind one properly. Both for the new market and the guy looking for a replacement for his vintage radio or amp.

For what its worth......

It's worth giving Bluebell Audio a try. Not sure they do custom transformers but they certainly supply suitable types

I have used

Boardman Transformers Ltd
Calamine Street
SK11 7HU Macclesfield
01625 618476

www.boardman-transformers.co.uk

Some time ago but I think they are still there.

Other makers are available etc. No paid for recommendations, no connections.

Listening to the radio now (from my Ipod via bluetooth, a podcast) through two of them. Shame that they have decided to stop, they where never your posh superdooper transformers but well made, worked and affordable.

Thank you VVT for all the transformers I have bought, they did sets for the classic Mullard amplifier range.

Theres still Danbury Transformers and Majestic.
Both very helpful I have found.
Bluebell mainly seem to deal with hammond stuff.

Hi Gents, both myself and Mike Barker (Murphy Mad) do transformer re-winds and new/ special designs for Radio, TV, Audio and general electronics use.
I believe we are both listed in the suppliers section
All is not lost, but we are finding parts supply can be difficult for some styles of core and bobbins.

Majestic transformers in Poole do custom made transformers, also valve output transformers. I used them in the past a couple of times, could not fault them.

www.repancobartlett.co.uk may also be worth a visit.

They make various kinds of transformers and chokes, and can also be contacted by email:-

repanco@btconnect.com

or via this link:

http://www.repancobartlett.co.uk/contact.html

or on +44(0)24 76665666.

I do not know whether they will supply in 'one-off' quantities, though.

How sad, they were a great company. I needed two bell housing's for a pair of OPT's last year, after a quick phone call they sent them FOC a day later.

Good to see there's other tfmr winder's apart from Ed and Mike. There's the bloke in Nott's as well who John Chamber's uses for tfmr re-winds, will find his detail's when I get a mo.

Hello people - I've not been here for quite some time, but I still have a need for a 150VA 300V valve transformer, just had a quote which basically said "Go away" (£300!!) it was £80.
So with things moving about a lot, businsses coming and many sadly going. Who does transformers nowadays?

I have used http://www.canterburywindings.co.uk/ordering.html for a valve mains transformer, not to expensive (£100 or so for a stereo EL34 amplifier).
