Default Re: EL2 though EL85. Small power pentode.

I have two PL95s here, one was made in the UK and the other was made in Western Germany. Otherwise they are identical.
The valves have no cut outs in the anodes so it is impossible to examine the grid structures. However, there appears to be evidence of beam forming plates. Instead of the usual suppressor grid support wires small metal tabs can be seen emerging from the mica assembly plates.

I have often wondered why on earth the EL2/32 had a top cap grid. Is it possible that the electrode structure was "pinched" from an RF pentode? Also, what did the Post Office do with these valves - many surplus examples are available ex-PO.
Among other things they were used in a mains powered monitor amplifier(which also happened to use one of those "inside out" speakers similar tro the DAC10.)

Closer examination of the EL85, the final valve in the series reveals that is a true pentode with a suppressor grid. Also, the construction is much more robust compared with the EL42 and EL95. My EL85s are coded CV3526. Made in the Blackburn works.
