Revox A77 mkII meters not working
Hello, I just bought a Revox A77 mkII machine, used and in very good condition it looks like. Nice and clean, inside is a bit dusty. The red power light is out, and the VU meters do not work or light up. Plays tapes just fine. Play, ff & rw work good, although I did have to hold down play until the tape leader has gone past the head.
I ordered a Repair Service Kit off of eBay, it comes with: 1- 1 Power lamp 2- 3 REC/VU meter lamps 3- 1 <End-of-tape> sensor 4- 2 original counterbelts 5- 2 ReVox NAB adapter gummiringe 6- 2 Teflon washers 7- 2 Nylon wrappers 8- Instructions for replacement Am going to take it to the shop to be serviced. My question is, will the VU meters work after installing new bulbs, or would that be a wiring problem? By the way I sure like this machine. Always had Pioneer or Akai decks before this. I'm amazed at how quiet this machine is. Plus it takes up a lot less room, it's very compact compared to most consumer machines. Sound quality is amazing. thanks for any help, Mike Parker |

Re: Revox A77 mkII meters not working
Hello, have you got the machine set up right? Make sure the left monitor controller is set to stereo, the second monitor control is set to tape, if that does not work, set the second to right controller to I-II and the right hand one to II-I then try adjusting the level controls, the meters can go open circuit but the best way of telling is when the machine powers up, watch the meters and see if the move.

Re: Revox A77 mkII meters not working
You don't say if you have tried recording ? Is the lack of meter function obvious when you try to record? Do you get the record indication lights ?
The meter lamps will not enable the meters to work if replaced. If you are unable to record & no record indicators, you have a problem with the electronics, perhaps as simple as a fuse.Try recording & then tell us more of the actual problems. Doffery |

Re: Revox A77 mkII meters not working
On some early A77's (~MK 1's) the VU meters only worked on INPUT not playback.

There is no metering on mine during playback either. Think thats the norm.

I think I also had a MKI at some time but I think you can get it to meter with a careful selection of switching though the right channel will appear on the left meter and vise versa, the A77 I have now is the MKIV,

Jimiclones,
Can you please tell me what the end-of-tape-sensor lamp part number is? Thanks! |

Thanks for your help, the meters only work while recording.
