it's a Plus-A-Gram. This is likely to be c. mid 1950s - but we'll need more information from you and photos of the unit please. Can't progress this without these details.

Hi Eric, and welcome to the forum. Plus-o-grams were made in many different forms, and with quite a few different cartridges. Can you post a photo of the cartridge, and we can then advise.

It's now easier to load pictures - no need to resize them because the forum software does it for us.

Main things to remember are:

1. Click on <Go Advanced> if you can't see the 'Additional Options' section of the reply screen.
2. Click on <Manage Attachments>
3. Click <Upload> after selecting the right picture(s).

Martin just a quick question, has the forum software been updated, since 2012, since the link is for that date.
Cheers

The method of uploading attachments has not changed since I wrote that sticky thread back in 2011.

Personally I don't bother reducing image sizes before uploading them, I let the forum software handle it. However I have a fast internet connection and large (4M) files upload quickly. Other forum members may have slow internet connections and could be waiting a long time.

I guess that it's internet connections that have been updated rather than the Forum software, but I used to waste time diligently resizing images to conform with the Forum requirement.

I was delighted when I found by experiment that the Forum resizes them for me anyway!

When uploading images it is always advisable to crop the image to just the important part you want others to see.
Otherwise when the image is reduced it is difficult to see the detail if there is still a lot of background.
The forum image limits of 800x600 are a small fraction of a modern PC monitor resolution.

We've not heard back from the OP.....If he's still out there and can't sort out the uploading of a photo, can he at least advise the type of 3 speed deck he has in his Plus-a-Gram. The use of the word "cartridge" suggests it's not a 78 rpm only deck as per the previous Post. I can make a guess it's an early BSR deck with an old, heavy, Mono only cart, but that's just me faling into the trap of assumptions again!

Sorry having a job uploading the pictures. It only plays 78's, needle held in with a screw. Looks like the photo in previous thread.

Another query, would i be able to play through a small amp or car hifi unit.

Eric.

Ahh - now we see it. It's not really a cartridge per se, but a magnetic pick up head.
These cannot be readily replaced as such, but can be rebuilt. Even if it works, it's output loading is unlikely to easily match a small amplifier or a car audio system.
If you like the original cabinet, and just want to play 78s, it may be far cheaper and less stressful for you to buy a cheap 3 or 4 speed single player off an auction site. The cartridge in these will also match your ancilliary equipment. Better still, if there's room get an autochanger and stack the 78s!

Here's the thread associated with the one I revived with lots of help from members - https://www.vintage-radio.net/forum/...d.php?t=121284 - it's a different (Garrard) head but the principles are probably the same - might be helpful.

Was hoping to be able to use it when at rallies, it would have been different and still in theme.

Thanks for all your info.
