Default Marconi 1259 radio Ham speaker?

Hello Guys,
Today I picked up this steel cased Marconi speaker with a Wharfedale cast metal framed speaker of 3 ohms. Can anyone tell me what it would have been intended for and its approximate age?
Many thanks, George

Looks like a Marconi Marine loudspeaker to me so a ship fit from bygone years.
