Default Can you ID this record player/tuner/amplifier unit?

I inherited this from a deceased friend. It had been modified to remove the electronics and fitted with a hardboard panel at the front, covered with wood effect "Fablon", where the original controls were.

The original turntable had also been removed and replaced by a Lenco L70, with the plinth cutout suitable altered.

I've been trying to identify what this unit would have originally been and who made it.

I initially thought Dynatron or Hacker, but looking through many photos on Google didn't show up anything that matched the front cutouts.

Does anyone know the original maker and model?

I think Van der Molen made something like this, though that wood (teak?) looks a bit too classy for them!

I suspect that the plywood front would have had a thin aluminium front over it.

Yes, I agree with you about it having a bit too much real wood veneer to be a Van Der Molen!

Maybe a Stereosound or Wye?

I can't find a pic of it - but I vaguely remember making a bare TT out of a GEC music centre rather like that.

Almost certainly Dynatron I’d say

Don't think it's Dynatron - not enough embellishments - I did look at pictures of their products. It has a distinctive sloping panel over the electronics down to meet the lid. Looked at V D M but nothing like it. The back looks well made with the finish of the holes for sockets etc. so not a cheapy make.

It was the back that reminded me of Dynatron SRX-series machine I had.

Dynatron certainly made something similar to that but the perspex lid was different and I don't think it had the slope to the deck. Is that a Garrard or BSR cut out?

i think its a van der molen .i say this because i have one .The early stuff was REAL teak veneer. it would have had a brushed aluminium plate on the front with large aluminium knobs with black fronts .mine has a BSR deck but i have seen one with a garrard

Jamesperrett: I'll post a photo of the deck cutout later today, but that had been altered to accommodate the Lenco L70 (you can see the difference in the cut edges).

Kirstyd: If you have one, could you post a photo, please?

I think I've just identified it. Here's a photo. The controls and radio tuning scale line up with the cutouts in my cabinet's front panel.
