Ekco TCG316. Help and advice needed
I recently bought a TV and record player with the intention of turning it into an unusual fish tank.
I have found out after trawling the internet that I have bought an Ekco TCG316 which I have already come to quite like. It has had someone pull the TV out and remove a few wires at the back, however the record player is still there and most of the electrics are still there but it looks like it has been a donor for another set at some point in its life. I have decided I would like to restore it but would like any advice on the subject. Has anyone had any experience with these sets or restored one? I will upload some pictures soon. Many thanks. |

Re: Help and advice needed
As you can see the TV has gone and someone has had a go at making some sort of shelf to fill the empty gap.

The tube is certainly gone, but the chassis (i.e. the electronics that drove it) is still present.
More pics and the service manual available here: http://www.thevalvepage.com/tv/ekco/tcg316/tcg316.htm N. |

Realistically I just want to get the record player going as I'm not too fussed about the TV at the moment. Where is a good place to start?

Last year I fully restored one of these for the wireless and television museum in Dulwich. If you you ever come down to London make arrangements to have a visit and see it fully working on television, radio and gram!

If you really just want the record player to work, it might be a lot of work because the electronics are rather tied-up with the TV side of things (as far as I understand it).
If you could get the deck mechanically working, it might be easiest to fit a tiny, modern amplifier inside, to couple the deck to the speaker. Not authentic, but then that's hardly important seeing as it's already half bookshelf! N. |

This is the Ekco i have that belonged to the lady who started Polly Peck, if anyone remembers that name. Top company once on the stock exchange.
PS go with Nick's advice and I would be intrested in the chassis if for sale. PM me if so.

Here are some pictures of the underside of the record player. Could someone tell me which wires provide power and which give me a signal to the speaker. Make me an offer for the main Chassis.

The mains goes normally to the motor and the audio from the pickup arm. Then through an amplifier before the speaker.
