Pre-war Mullard CRTs.
Here is some information about three CRTs made and marketed by Mullard in 1937.
The 12" electrostatic deflection and focus type E46-12 and the 12" and 15" triode gun types M46-12 and M46-15. DFWB. |

Another datasheet of the M46-12 with socket connections. See attachment.

Hello Jac,
Mullard made the tubes but there is no record of any television receiver made in the UK that was equipped with them. DFWB. |

Hello David,
You have a very interesting (valve-)databook there! Do you know if Mullard developed the MW22-1 or was there input from Eindhoven? Jac |

Re: Pre-war Mullard CRTs.
Interesting David. I have an undated Mullard data book which I guess was published in 1938/9. The tubes listed for television are: MW18-2. MW22-1. MW22-3. MW22-5. MW31-3.MW31-6.
The 1936/7 data sheet gives only the E46-12 as suitable for television having a white screen. Seven others are listed. 4001 Green. 4001A Blue. 4002 Green. 4002A Blue. 6001 Green. E42-G6 Green. E42-B6 Blue. 'The E46-12 is designed especially for television reception' [text] John. |

Re: Pre-war Mullard CRTs.
I was recently thumbing through some old editions of Television & SWW and came across a piece of trivia that surprised me.
https://www.americanradiohistory.com...8-08-S-OCR.pdf If you read the Telegossip section it would appear that the monitors in AP of the type here: https://www.tvcameramuseum.org/emi/e...936/1936p3.htm initially had green screens! Peter |

Re: Pre-war Mullard CRTs.
Hello Jac,
I'll have to take a look at the MW22-1 in the Pye 838. I seem to remember that it was made in Holland. I reckon it's safe to say that Philips in Eindhoven was the developer of the tube. I believe that Mullard in England was responsible for the development of the M46-12 and M46-15 CRTs. Both have the B4 base. As for the all electrostatic CRT type E46-12 because it has a side contact connector it's most likely of Continental origin. Hello John, the information comes from the Mullard 1937/38 data book. There's all the well known Mullard valves in there and also a few unusual types including two acorn valves types AP4 and AT4. Described as valves for ultra high frequency work. UHF in those times was 300Mc/s I guess. DFWB. |

Re: Pre-war Mullard CRTs.
I seem to remember reading that very early versions of certain pre war EMI receivers had green screens. J.

Hi John,
That's right the Emiscope 9" hexode gun CRT fitted in the HMV 903 and Marconi 704 had the green phosphor. DFWB. |
