To paint...
or not to paint?
Hi folks, my restoration of this uniquely rare Vox PA100 is near completion, I've rebuilt the fire damaged o/p board, smartened up the front panel, fitted a new meter, as well as giving the chassis the toothbrush treatment! However, I dont know what to do with the metal case, which is in a rather sad state! But due to amps rarity (and potential value) should I just clean up or repaint. What would you do? |

Re: To paint...
If it where mine I would have it done in a paint shop, won't be cheap but will be as good as new. Most (paint shops) have a bit of slack, if it's done on a 'when you can fit it in' basis it will be a bit cheaper.

Re: To paint...
A paint shop may also be able to match the original colour too

Re: To paint...
Go for the paint shop as like a vintage car looking Concours De Elegance the value will rocket!

Re: To paint...
A good paint shop can also use 2-pack paints which cure to a much more robust finish than DIY aerosols.
The question is do you want to have an amplifier which shows people what it was like to be back in that time, or which shows people how much time has gone by since it was new and shiny? David

Re: To paint...
To the paint shop it is then!
One of my nephews has his own paint/panel business and is rather good so I'll give him a call, pity he's 70 miles away though! This baby will never be Concours condition as it has too many scratches and dinks on it, but considering the state it was in, I'm rather pleased how it's turned out Many thanks for the replies |
