Question Replacing a 40 uf + 20 uf 500 V can capacitor

Good evening. As the heading says Terry wants to replace the above on a jukebox valve amplifier and would like to mount the replacement on the top of the chassis as per the original. The nearest replacement we can find is 32 + 16 uf 500 v, would this be suitable or are there any suggestions from you clever people as we can't seem to find anything nearer to the original value?

If you look at the tolerance spec on the old part, if the new part is close to what it's marked as, it will likely be within bounds.

Modern capacitors are made somewhat more accurately.

Should be fine.

If it bothers you just fit extra capacitors under the chassis to make up the old values. But my view is that you won't hear a difference. Worry ye not.

I think a bit more information would be helpful.
Size - diameter and height are they important?
What rectifier does the 'box use - valve or solid state?
What is the maximum voltage on the HT+ rail?
Could the original can be restuffed etc.?

You can buy them from CE Distribution in the USA - at a price. We leave the originals in place to preserve appearance and put modern caps on tag strips underneath the chassis.
