Is there an equivalent that could be used in a 2 valve sw circuit with a ECC81?

954s are still readily available if you look around - excellent valves. The holders for them are more difficult to get though.

I found the socket for $7 but the shipping might put me off.

A 9001 is a 954 with a B7G base.
