Cheap stick-on feet
Instead of buying expensive "proper" feet for project boxes, I buy the cheap stick-on "bumpers" in large packs from DIY stores or supermarkets. They work equally well and come in a variety of sizes. I believe they bare sold to deaden the noise of kitchen cupboards etc closing.

Re: Cheap stick-on feet
Good idea. A lot of those outlets sell proper stick on feet too. Not forgetting the stick on felt pads that you can put on the bottom of 30s sets to stop them scratching cupboards and tables.

Or the nail on felt pads in metal cups that don't fall off, B&Q I think.

Re: Cheap stick-on feet
Needing to replace the rubbers on a PC box I used four of those 1 3/4 inch tap washers that skull about in the kitchen draw, fixed on with (H)ev(h)o Impact adhesive. Works a treat

Re: Cheap stick-on feet
Tap washers are a good trick: there is a domed type [usually called a "holdtite" washer] that I've used in the past by pushing them over the short stub-end of a 2BA machine-screw screwed through from inside the case you're fitting them to.
A pack of ten 3/4-inch [bath-tap size] ones costs about 60p if you know where to look. |

Re: Cheap stick-on feet
Wilko did a great range of self-adhesive bumpers, pads and so on, including cork and felt ones too. But certainly in my local branch, they've all but disappeared.

Re: Cheap stick-on feet
Thats a shame, I used to have a great shop back in north Yorkshire that sold all sorts of handy DIY and those little gel stick ons and the felt feet were absolute godsends for use as feet on small and not so small equipment housings. Boyes for those of you in the Northeast still.
B&Q do a good range but even with a Clubcard discount I find them to be not the cheapest around. Handy though. Andy. |

Re: Cheap stick-on feet
ESR components actually do sheets of proper sticky rubber feet quite cheaply, if you want the genuine article. No connection with the company other than a satisfied customer.

Re: Cheap stick-on feet
I used to have a busted tractor tyre inner tube I got from the local tyre place. I used it to make rubber feet.

Re: Cheap stick-on feet
Now I like that solution David. You could make thousands of feet from a tube that size. I suppose you could use a leather hole punch to make them, as cutting them out with scissors or a knife could be a bit tedious.

Re: Cheap stick-on feet
I get old electronics through FreeCycle and peel the old feet off.
I also get spare components that way too. |
