Re: Goodmans speaker problem
There is a chance that you will never get this working again unless you can remove the cone, and that in itself is probably going to be very destructive as well.
It may be possible to cut away the centre cap covering the speech coil, and prise the moveable pole piece back to the centre. But my fear is it will just snap from one side to the other. Put some very thin strong plastic strips in the gap to stop the pole piece snapping too far to the other side. But first I think you should replace the 2 outside screws if you can. What has happened is the centre magnet pole has slipped to the side of the speech coil gap and is stuck fast to the side by magnetic force. It is only advisable to try and repair speakers that can be totally dismantled. I find this tends to be ones from before the 1940's. The electromagnetic speakers are the easiest to repair. |

Hi,
Thanks for your help I cut the centre of the cone as you suggested with a scapel It then used a long 4ba bolt to screw into the metal centre then pushing it all the way out I then used fine wet n dry to clean up the cardboard The metal centre went into the dremel to take a few thou off ! All back together with evo stick to repair the cone and it works ! Not hi fi but good enough for am |
