Mallory-Plessey cans
Hi fellow avocados
Just successfully managed to recreate a couple of 1930s cans for my 378 project, thanks to Rejectostat for supplying the text and a local aluminium stockholder for some offcuts of tube and bar for a few beer tokens. I have put the cans that Jim Beacon gave me 'into stock' for a later project.

Nice work!
How did you join everything together? And what did you print the text on to? Nick |

The 'can' is alloy tube - I turned an alloy plug for each end - the top one is a tight fit, and is Araldited in as well. The bottom one is a sliding fit, and is retained by a 6 BA countersunk screw. It has a 3/4 inch x 16 TPI thread in it, into which the nylon stub screws, and is retained by a touch of Araldite. I haven't made the nuts yet - today's job! I have pictures of the internal construction, but they are over 100k, so cannot attach them here. Screwcutting on nylon is not easy, because it tries to deform instead of accepting a cut - a case of making a very shallow cut each pass. I could got some alloy, but wanted to use what was in my scrapbox. The text was printed on to waterslide transfer paper with an inkjet printer. This is available from http://www.craftycomputerpaper.co.uk/index2.htm and works extremely well. HTH
