Bush AC11 Dial Glass surround
Hello again, with the Bush AC 11
Dick Glennon was kind enough to send me a replacement dial glass for my Bush AC 11, through your excellent forum. It fitted a treat but from my attached picture you will see that it looks as if something is missing, to cover up the vertical edges of the glass. The photos on the Radiomuseum website and elsewhere on the web images show something covering the edges, I believe. Can anyone shed any light, please? Thanks in advance Dave |

Re: Bush AC11 Dial Glass surround
There should be a black metal strip either side of the dial glass, I have restored two of these sets, but cannot remember if they are fitted from the front of the set after lifting the plate at the bottom of the dial.

Re: Bush AC11 Dial Glass surround
Hi Mark
Thanks very much for your prompt reply. Is it a U shaped section of metal, so it clips onto the edge the glass or is it stuck on? Best regards Dave |

Re: Bush AC11 Dial Glass surround
If I remember correctly, I think there is a slot for the glass, then it is held in place by the cabinet at the top and slide out plate at the bottom.
If you can wait a day or two, I will examine mine and take a few photos. Mark |

Re: Bush AC11 Dial Glass surround
Hi Dave, I took some photos of the dial arrangement of my unrestored set.
There should be a plate with a lip at the bottom of the dial, pushing this downwards releases the bottom of the dial glass, allowing it to pull forward from the bottom, it then pulls down from the top on two springs. The two black metal trims have channels to hold the glass. Hope this helps. Mark |

Re: Bush AC11 Dial Glass surround
Hi Mark
Thanks for taking the trouble to photograph the metal trims etc. I've found the sliding metal plate and the two springs. What stops the glass from sliding up the metal channel - is it just friction? Also, there appears to be a some plastic? tape folded over the top of the glass. Hopefully, Dick Glennon will be able to find two side channels and all will become clear. Regards Dave |

Re: Bush AC11 Dial Glass surround
The tape is just there to protect the edge of the glass, you can see it in my first photo.
From memory, the glass is a friction fit in the two metal channels, although I seem to remember there may have been some tape on the sides. I hope Dick manages to find both sides for you. Although a pretty plain set, they are extremely reliable and do sound nice once recapped. I only found out when taking the photos, that I have two of these awaiting restoration! These are nice and easy sets to work on, there is also the AC/DC version. See here for the restoration of my DAC11: https://www.vintage-radio.net/forum/...ad.php?t=75822 |

Re: Bush AC11 Dial Glass surround
Cracking restoration, Gromit!!
Well done, Mark for a terrific job - it looks better than new! Thanks for the info and pics on how the edge of the dial glass fits into the scheme of things. Sadly my AC11 will never look as good as yours. This may not be the right place to ask this question, but how do you get the valves looking like new, without removing the manufacturers printing on the glass envelope? Regards Dave |

Re: Bush AC11 Dial Glass surround
Hi Dave, I just use a damp piece of kitchen roll to clean valves, taking care not to wipe away any markings.
If they are really filthy, I wipe on a drip of fairy liquid. A final polish with a clean dry duster brings them up like new I use the same method with glass dials, but be extremely careful with the printed side! Mark |

Re: Bush AC11 Dial Glass surround
Good evening All
Firstly, Mick/vinrads, thanks for your kind offer. If it's OK with you, I'll wait until Dick Glennon gets back on July 4th and see if he make a matched pair of channels and, if that's unsuccessful, I might find out if the one he has already is a left side or right side one and get back to you. Secondly, Mark, thanks for the advice about cleaning valves, without removing the print. Thanks again for a great forum. Dave |

Re: Bush AC11 Dial Glass surround
Hi Dave, I have the two sides and the bottom for the dial glass. Pity I did not know that you wanted the surrounds as well. We could have killed the 2 birds. Let me know if you still want them. Regards Dick.

Re: Bush AC11 Dial Glass surround
Hi Dick, I didn't know until various posts had arrived that I needed anything else other than the glass alone. Many apologies! Yes, I would still like them please.
Could you PM me about what to do next? Best regards, Dave |

Re: Bush AC11 Dial Glass surround
Glad to help Dave, I rather like these sets. Nice to see another one bought back to life
P.S. the speaker grilles are not too difficult to remove, and clean up well. It makes a big difference to it's appearance! Mark |
