Default Regentone A133 Radio.

Hi,
Another novice question (sigh).

I am hoping to restore a A133 Regentone Radio. I have removed the chassis from its cabinet so I can clean the underside.

Can someone please name the grey component in the attached photo? It has the diameter of a pencil & is about 4cm long. Also, it gets quite hot after a few minutes. Is this usual?

Thanks in advance.

Terry.

Still no pictures

Long time since I played with an A133 but the part you interested in is probably part of the smoothing circuit and its a 1K 4W resistor and yes it will get quite hot.

Physically from memory its strung between the main smoothing capacitor and a tag on the output transformer.

Have you done any restoration and replacement of capacitors?

Certainly if the Grid coupling capacitor of the EL41 has not been replaced this resistor might get hotter than normal.

Cheers

It's a high-power, wirewound resistor as far as I can tell.

Yes as Nick says a high power wirewound resistor, and exactly as Mike says a Ik 4watt. It is component 17 in the ERT service sheet available here.

These are actually nice easy sets for a beginner, so you've chosen well. Once you understand what's going on here you'll be able to work on most 50s sets without problems.
