Repairing another TV back cover: Defiant T1410.
You'll recall that I made a replacement back for the Biffa Bush TV set from one that came from a long gone TV24.
https://www.vintage-radio.net/forum/...fa+Bush&page=4 See posts #62, 63 and 64. This Defiant T1410 has been lying around in the shop for ages. The back was damaged not by heat from the mains dropper but possibly missuse. The plan was to modify a back cover from the 17" version of the T1410, but instead I've decided to repair the original part. My good fortune was to find a back cover from a scrapped Murphy AM/FM radio set. As you can see with a bit of fiddling about it makes a good repair. Like the Biffa Bush I'll use pieces of paxolin and nylon screws to attach the new part. The pictures tell the story. DFWB. Last edited by FERNSEH; 24th Jun 2014 at 4:23 pm. |

Re: Repairing another TV back cover: Defiant T1410.
I've got loads of sets with busted up backs David. If you need something to keep you amused I can send them up North on my mates lorry as a back load and you can fettle them during these hot summer days.. Have they put you on some sort of therapy course now they have allowed you out again?
Seriously a nice job. Those backs used to fall to bits especially the one that formed the rear half of the cabinet. Nasty idea. Regards, John. |

The back has been reftted. It doesn't look pretty but it gets the job done.

It looks fine to me, and it makes the set safe!

Re: Repairing another TV back cover: Defiant T1410.
Hi
Slightly OT, but the damage reminds me of a set I went to see in the lounge of quite an upmarket hotel Someone had dropped a lamp onto the plastic back which had smashed - and they were still using the set! I refused to have anything to do with it. Also some years ago in a large retailer that is no longer with us I saw a 'manager's special' - a Hitachi C2598 with a large hole in its back with the EHT lead easily accessible even to me with my big paws! I had a word with said manager to point out that he could be in deep trouble if this set was sold - needless to say he showed no interest, telling me it was sold as seen. Indefensible, obviously. Fortunately, as the EHT was not mains derived, he got away with it!

There is no way I would a allow set in that condition to be sold to anyone.
A replacement rear cover would have be ordered and if one was no longer available then the set would not offered for sale. For goodness sake what penny pinching! DFWB. |
