Default Vintage Australian Televisions.

Hello members, I'm am new to this forum but not new to electronics. I'm into Old B/W valve TV's, Solid state 5" & up, Pinball, Arcade machines & I love old technology. these are my two new additions here (photos).

A little barn find recently, a old man died & left 50 old B/W & colour TV's behind. These are only the first two I have collected & repaired. More oldies will be in my possession as soon as access to them is gained, I have been given first pick for free.

Anyway I look forward to sharing my info if a as I am able.

Doug

Nice to hear from the land of sunshine, where I lived for around 6 years (QLD). Still have an Australian radio from the 60's somewhere which I keep meaning to get working.....

Hi Doug and welcome to the forums.

The first two sets to emerge from the barn have turned out quite well. Did they need much work to get going?

Do you have the model numbers for the Philips and Healing TV in your pictures? The Philips looks like it might be a model TR826 but the Healing is a complete unknown.
I have a long term project going where I'm matching old TV model numbers to pictures of sets for historical reference reasons, so I'll be quite keen to see what else you manage to rescue!

Also, don't overlook any first generation colour TV's. There is a small group of people that do love the old delta gun colour TV's that may be interested in any potential survivors in the barn.

Doug, you are very welcome here, but in case you weren't aware of it, British and Australian practice differed a lot during the valve era. We don't see a lot of Aussie stuff here (particularly TVs) so you might find expertise is a bit limited.

We've got lots of active Aussie and NZ members though.

Hi Andrew, I have the Schematics for both TV's so I'll get you the data you require. Do you need anything else?

Just the model numbers will be enough. They may not be on the schematics, so you may have to check on the back cover or chassis for model numbers.

Thanks, Andrew

Andrew

The Philips model is 02 TR826, Chassis 12S

The Healing chassis 955, 2MO75, 2M150.
The model number maybe a TH 481 (this is printed on the Schematic envelope).

Welcome aboard!

I'm, as a bit of a Philips nut, interested in any code numbers, stickers, model number plates, stamps and stickers on picture tubes and other details on Philips televisions so a few extra pictures of those while you are documenting your restoration work would be appreciated very much.

Hi
I'm glad you regard 50 old TVs as a 'little' barn find. Here's hoping you get a big one!
Good luck - you'll be busy for a while.

Welcome abroad Doug! I understand the HMV brand was independently produced in Australia and, more interesting the UK Decca Bradford hybrid chassis was imported into Australia and sold under the HMV banner.

The Philips set certainly looks unique.
Cheers,
Brian

Well it's a hot day today forecast to be 43 Celsius, (116 Fahrenheit) so good day for a cold beer. I bought home this morning two more, both portables-

1/ Westinghouse 12" portable B/W model 1147 the rest of the tag is gone.
It goes but needs lots of attention had some HT arcing.

2/ AWA colour 34cm (14") VHF & UHF model C3410N.
It goes well but I'll need to adjust the red as a little too much Cyan in the mix.

Ill post so photos in a day or two, Also plan to bring home some bigger sets after Xmas.

Thanks for confirming the model numbers.

I thought the Philips was a TR826 as the colours used around the control panel are slightly different to those on my TR836. The 12S chassis is a hybrid chassis and is quite an interesting design! The TR836 looks very similar but uses the solid state C1 chassis.

The Healing model number is harder to figure out. The TH 481 number is the part number for the envelope! The model number is going to be one of these three: 955, 2MO75, 2M150. What is the model name printed on the front control panel of the TV?

I look forward to hearing some more about your finds.

Hi Doug a very big welcome from across the ditch here in NZ. A legacy of 50 sets left behind - there are bound to be some gems in amongst them. Good to have another TV enthusiast from your neck of the woods. You may have come across my website on the net as I am a vintage TV collecting nut too. Also fond of Philips and have several sets. Looking forward to seeing some more Aussie sets..The photo of that Philips set is very cool. Cheers Glen

Hello Doug and a warm welcome, it is great to have our Aussie and Kiwi cousins here on the forum. The Philips set highlights the differences in cabinet designs between the home and commonwealth countries, it appears more like an American set with a wide aspect and greater depth. We look forward to more images from this barn find with interest.

Hello Doug. Victoria is the place for finding old tellies! Or maybe there's more interest in vintage television here than other States?

Hi Folks, let me know if anything interesting (and small) is in the area, as I shall be staying with my son in the Victoria Park area of Melbourne in Jan/ Feb.
