Re: Maplins discontinue small Ali Boxes
Maplin was at it's best in the 80's, stopped using them about 10 years ago, overpriced and poor range for me.

Re: Maplins discontinue small Ali Boxes
I find many prices objectional.
On a positive note, I bought 50x BC547 transistors from rapid for £0.94. I remember paying more than that for two 2n2222's from Tandy! Also after reading a thread on EEVblog, I bought a DMM for £2.68 from CPC and it's not terrible. You win some, you lose some. |

Re: Maplin discontinue small Ali Boxes
Hi!
I can remember the days of going into my local Tandy's in Morecambe when TWO half-watt carbon film resistors in folded cardboard sleeves were £1.95!!! I wanted to have a go at building EPE's "Needle Scratch Blanker" from Jan 2000 (PCB still available!) and looked on the dreaded eBay for the smaller bits & got 3400 E24 1/4W metal-film resistors for about £24.50 - that's 20 pieces of EVERY E24 value from 1 ohm to 10M! You couldn't hope to match that retail! Another thing that's getting a pain to find is single-sided PCB pins/Veropins! Quote:
