I`ve had quite good cosmetic resullts by giving Speaker Grills an overnight soak in mild vinegar solution. Then a scub with a tooth brush doused in the same solution. Works especially well with brown discoloured (nicotine stained) speaker grills ala Roberts. And try Tamiya Acrylic Thinner (available from your local model shop) for removing paint specks, needs a bit of elbow grease but much gentler than Nitromors!

Hello Roger,

I use vinegar often to remove tarnish from brass - it works quickest when mixed with some boiling water and a little washing up liquid and this solution softens old lacquer on metal trim in about 5 minutes which makes polishing it much easier. I also use Tamiya paints as touch up and I've also used Tamiya thinners for removing paint and marks as it's a stronger solvent than white spirit yet doesn't damage plastic or leathercloth as it's designed to thin paints which are sprayed onto plastics
