BVWS Royal Wootton Bassett 4th December 2016
It's just over a week now until the BVWS Royal Wootton Bassett Auction and Swapmeet on SUNDAY 4th DECEMBER, our last get together for what's been a very busy 2016 with a record number of events on the calendar!
The BVWS stall will be there stocked with high voltage electrolytic and polyester capacitors of all the types we need and use for vintage radio & TV, also De-oxit, publications, etc. There will be 300 odd lots in the auction, I know Mike has been very busy lotting, photographing and loading and that will continue right up until the event. Many stalls selling wireless/television/test gear/audio/spares, you'll never know what you might find! If you're wanting to book at table, please contact Mike now while there are still one or two places available! Doors open at 9:30am for STALLHOLDERS GENERAL OPENING for everyone is 10:00am. Everyone is welcome (although only BVWS members can bid in the auction). You can join the BVWS or renew your 2017 membership on the day! Auction start at approx. 12:30pm The usual Bring & Buy tables will be in operation in the side annex. Jim's kitchen will be in full swing with plenty of hot and cold food throughout the day. You can pay for purchases from the auction or the BVWS stall by debit/credit card, so bring your flexible friend and have a spend! See you there!

Re: BVWS Royal Wootton Bassett 4th DECEMBER!!
I haven't made it down there for some years now, but I'm hoping to be there this year.
Is there a surcharge for payment by card?

Re: BVWS Royal Wootton Bassett 4th DECEMBER!!
Great question Dave:
On membership renewals - Yes, this has been the case for a few years now, the system is set up to do this. On auction purchases - No, not on THIS occasion but read explanations below... Those of you who have paid by card at our auctions will be aware of the antiquated card slip/voucher system that we'd used previously. As the banks will soon be unable to support that system and also to remain compliant with PCI-DSS (Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard) we have had to upgrade. We now have a portable terminal that works on mobile data technology. We have a monthly subscription and also pay to the clearing bank a small amount of each card transaction processed, irrespective whether that's a Debit or Credit card. It is most likely that to help cover the costs to the Society, we will make a small surcharge on all card payments from next year, it is a subject that I will discuss in greater detail at the next committee meeting and we will make a decision as to the way forward. Then the auction software will be updated to automatically apply the correct amount when a member chooses to pay by card. We'll make an announcement in a forthcoming Bulletin. But on Sunday 4th December, there will be NO surcharges made for auction card payments, so take advantage of this and spend away to benefit from the extra value! Let's call it the BVWS Black Sunday Offer!

Re: BVWS Royal Wootton Bassett 4th DECEMBER!!
Thanks, Greg. I certainly hope to make the best of "Black Sunday" (though I've never understood what's black about a special offer day - whether it be Sunday or the more traditional Friday). With any luck this will result in a sufficient increase in takings to offset the costs to the Society.

Re: BVWS Royal Wootton Bassett 4th DECEMBER!!
I noticed in the Autumn 2016 edition of The Bulletin that there was an application form in the middle pages for tickets for RWB.
Is it OK to turn up on the day without a ticket and pay on the door?

Re: BVWS Royal Wootton Bassett 4th DECEMBER!!
As far as I know John if your a BVWS member you can always just pay at the door
Incidentally IMHO the RWB meets is the personal and friendly of all the BVWS meets Hope to see you you at the B&B where hopefully we can fleece you Sorry I meant relieve you of your hard earned cash. Look out for mince pies and an excess of wireless purchasing highly likely to get you in serious trouble with your XYL Cheers Mike T

Re: BVWS Royal Wootton Bassett 4th DECEMBER!!
Although you can buy tickets in advance the majority of people just pay cash on the day. Bring your membership card if possible.
The advance booking is mainly for stallholders. |

Family commitments mean that I can't make this meeting - the auction seems to have a lot of good items in it - hope you all enjoy yourselves!

Re: BVWS Royal Wootton Bassett 4th DECEMBER!!
Mike T
I have some stuff for the B&B. A Storno loudspeaker meant to be mounted in a car/van footwell or wherever - tests ok on my LCR45. A Roberts R200 that works but needs some switch cleaner attention and is missing the brass inserts on the knobs, and an Hitachi transistor radio/tape player/recorder that's about 15/20 years old. Presumably that's all ok? John

Re: BVWS Royal Wootton Bassett 4th DECEMBER!!
Another grand day out. Even the weather behaved itself.....
Bagged a Pye P26BQ-could be anything from a sewing machine to a film projector from the outside but opens up to reveal a pretty fascia inside. Also got a very eclectic mixed box- listening to the Grundig Elite Boy 600 from it now , many other bits n pieces, walkie talkies, assorted mini multiband "travel" sets, several cassette recorders, a couple of "soothing sounds" boxes (yes really!), a radiosonde, programmable timeswitch, alarm clock radio, several bags of capacitors and even a few bits I don't recognise! Almost financed my day from the B&B too.

Re: BVWS Royal Wootton Bassett 4th DECEMBER!!
Another Cracking Wootton Bassett event.
Some very unusual stuff on the B&B. Only bought one Cossor in the Auction ( model 57) although I was sorely tempted by a few others that I already have examples of Thanks to some other BVWS members I was able to close a few holes in my documentation. Mike and the team as always did a fantastic job and lets not overlook the catering team poor old Jim even managed to set fire to the kitchen he was working so hard Seriously the catering is an important part of the RWB experience often overlooked, there is a reason RWB feels so much like a family event its because it is. I want to add my personal thanks to Mike and all his team and all those that supported the B&B. Looking forward to the next event Cheers Mike T
