SE Labs SM214 digital voltmeter
Hello,
My unit works fine on all ranges except 110mV DC, which displays all zeros. Does anyone have a manual for it please? I saw one sold on eBay some time ago with a manual: https://picclick.co.uk/Vintage-Nixie...242015843.html so there is at least one copy out there! I haven't got a manual, but the maker in the title should be "SE Labs" not "SM labs", the voltmeter is SM214 of course, as shown in the link.

I once visited SE labs in Wookey Hole! (OK, it wasn't actually in the caves
 )Part of the EMI group (at that time), IIRC producing/servicing multichannel FM recorders (14CH / 1inch?). dc |

I've only bought one manual from their website, it was a good quality copy, can't remember how much it was. My last enquiry about a Wayne Kerr manual never got a response
 Which made me wonder if they had sold the originals on ebay.Prices are all over the place, think it depends on supply & demand as with anything else. Your 5½ digit SE labs DVM wouldn't have sold as many units as a typical 3½ DVM used by a service shop/department and hence not many will be about. David |

SE Labs SM214.
I can't help with a manual. I attach the specification of their voltmeters, though oddly not your SM214 and oscilloscopes from a 1971/72 catalogue. Also a brief history of the firm, which was based at Feltham. It was taken over by EMI in 1966, and manufacturing moved to Wells in 1968. Everything moved to Nottingham and closed down completely in late 1977. Products included ultra-violet and magnetic recording equipment, specialist control valves and the range of oscilloscopes which were produced at the Wells site, which has an interesting history. The Socophony Baird television company was based in Holland Park in the 1930's. During the war it was working on electronics and similar equipment and was moved to Wells to avoid the bombing, being accomodated in wooden huts for many years. Taken over by EMI in 1951, with undertakings to keep employment in Wells and occupied by EMI Electronics, concentrating on Systems, Radar and SELabs. Site sold to Racal in 1995 and closed. Incidently, I have dealt with Telford from time to time over the years, and found them very helpful. Buying bits of equipment and also manuals.
