Vintage Coughtrie swan neck outside lamp.
Why are these lamps going for a lot of money?

Re: Vintage Coughtrie Swan Neck Out Side Lamp
I don't know; however Coughtrie are a premium brand and were/are rather expensive new. I suppose British quality has its price.

Because Joe Consumer has noticed that all the stuff piled deep in the DIY sheds is a load of tat.

Value usually depends on not many being kept. Modern "collectibles" will probably not become valuable because everyone is collecting them. Earlier ones have already been decimated, so numbers are limited hence values amplified.
Also, as David says, modern things, with a few exceptions, just aren't the same! PS, Good news for once, I have one somewhere in the basement (stores) |

Re: Vintage Coughtrie swan neck outside lamp.
Hi,
If we're talking about the grey ones with three screws, then the ones where the screws can actually be undone are probably quite rare! Whenever I've managed to get hold of one, the wellglass is usually intact but the screws are seized solid and I can't rewire it or change the lamp! Cheers, Pete

Re: Vintage Coughtrie swan neck outside lamp.
We have a Coughtrie swan-neck fitting next door and it's not that old. I replaced the old Coughtrie about ten years ago with an identical one. I keep the screws greased with Vaseline so they don't seize - never had a problem with it.
I imagine the fittings with a reflector above the well-glass are rarer.

Hello,
The SW10 range are still available as spare parts on the Coughtrie website but they are rather expensive. http://www.coughtrie.com/spares?page...category_id=93 http://www.coughtrie.com/spares?page...ategory_id=207 http://www.coughtrie.com/spares?page...ategory_id=202 http://www.coughtrie.com/spares?page...ategory_id=201 Yours, Richard |

Hi
Aargh - just replaced one on my Mum's garage with a NOS one I'd had for ages. Wonder if she's notice if I pinched it? No idea it might be valuable... Glyn |
